You custom portrait will receive full attention from one of our in house illustrators working to your outline and brief, but it is limited to the head and shoulders of one person. You will be able to proof the final design prior to printing.

The time line will be about 6-10 days from order. At around day 4 or sooner, you will see a draft version of the picture, showing how it would look. Then modifications if needed can be made to colour combinations and a final proof before printing and stretching over a frame. Canvas prints with a designer twist.

Before we start work, we discuss the composition plan for the custom portrait with you, the style and the colours you want to feature. This is a one to one with the artist over the telephone. Only once this has all been agreed do we start creative work.

The print price works like this. Illustration fee as above, + the size of the canvas print you want to order – this way you get custom art canvas print on custom scale designed to fit your budget. Any questions please contact us.

Price: £149 plus the cost of the canvas print size you would like the artwork placed on.

Please note: the prices have been worked out for a head and shoulders of single person to be illustrated – extra people and complicated themes incur an extra charge, which we will of course chat over with you prior to starting the artwork.

We have a large range of canvas sizes for you to choose from here at Photo Canvas. The smallest starting from 30 x 30 cm at the price point of only £29. Our canvases vary from square to rectangle and you have endless options to choose from regarding design.

Dispatch the same day you order includes 30x30cm to 150x200cm. Bigger than that, up to 5m take 2-3 days longer but bare in mind that we are one of only a few companies that can deal with canvas prints this large. Need to know if your photo will print well? We can help. We have a preview service that you can use anytime which gives instant results, and for a human service, designers how can answer your questions if you use our Image Check service. Here are some tips on how to take great photos for printing:

- When you choose your photo, make sure the subject is clear and has enough room around it to fit the shape of your order dimensions. Please take into account that the printed image gets wrapped around to the reverse of the stretcher bar frame. This means approximately 2-3cm of your image (on all four sides) will not be visible ‘head on’ when looking at the finished piece.
- Please be sure to avoid any key subject at the very edge of the photo if you want a wrap. We do our very best to avoid losing any key features on the edge, but it is worth noting this point at the stage of choosing your photo. If you are ordering the deeper block frame then 4-5 cm of the image (on all four sides) is wrapped to the sides and back of the frame.

“We are re-decorating our hallway. Next to the front door are some unsightly access panels (to the electricity meter and fuses). These panels have little knobs on them. My wife and I both thought of hanging a canvas over the panels – the knobs would be lost in the 4cm depth of the canvas. We decided on a 200cm x 40cm ca…nvas. A full size picture of me was vetoed *sigh*. However, my wife has been nurturing an orchid for two years and we decided on a picture of that. I took a photo of the orchid and made a mock-up of how the hallway would look with the canvas. I ordered the canvas print from Contrado at about 11:00 on Monday 31 May (a bank holiday). It arrived here in the depths of Pembrokeshire almost exactly 48 hours later. I attach a montage of some pictures of the hallway and the orchid.

Some technical details – in you care. I took the photo, in the garden, with a Canon PowerShot G10, using a large sheet of grey cardboard as a background. (The orchid usually lives in the kitchen.) The image I submitted for the 40cm x 200cm picture was 884×4416 pixels. So there were only about 2.2 pixels per mm. However, the orchid on the canvas looks excellent. I chose white edges for the canvas.”
