Frequently Asked Questions

Do they have a plastic coating?
No, our canvas printing uses a process whereby the inks are fused with the material, so no varnish or plastic coating is necessary. This also means that our canvasses are extraordinarily resilient.

Do You Mount on Stretcher Bars or MDF blocks?

We do not feel that this makes for a desirable product. We use proper art frames of a very high standard, and we use wedges which can retighten the canvas if necessary. Our frames are laminar so they are resistant to warping.

What do I need to take into account regarding the subject of the photo?

The most common ratio of width to height of a photo is 6:4, this means that for a normal shaped photo 24"x16" and 32"x20" give a reasonable fit. Square shapes are very popular we find, but please bear in mind that something will be cropped. We find we get the best results from photos with a bit of space around the subject so that important details are not too near the edge.

How deep is the stretcher frame?
The standard stretcher bar frame is 1" deep (2.5cm). We also make 1.75" (4.5cm) frames to order at additional charge (+30%). All stretch frames have hardwood corner wedges. All canvas prints are stretched and mounted by hand.

How Can I keep it clean?
CARE: Vacuuming with a correct attachment - e.g. curtain nozzle as appropriate when hung on wall. We also recommend dusting or wiping with a damp cloth perhaps with mild soapy water if marked. Do not get frame soaking wet as it may warp. No solvents. Use a lint roller (pictured) for fluff.

Is it ok to put my canvas print up in the bathroom?
Steam will not damage the canvas material or the print or the wooden frame in normal bathroom conditions. Prolonged steam could lead to warping of the frame - but that would have to be like a steam room i.e. constant and hot. If just normal bathroom conditions then there should be no problem. Avoid splashing water on the wooden frame. A minor splash won't hurt, but best to avoid.

How big can they be?
Up to 1.4m along one side and any dimension the other direction.

How long do they take to make and deliver?
About 5-7 days from receipt of your order for our standard sizes. For larger sizes and custom orders around 14 days.

What are the size guidelines?
The canvases are made to measure - so you identify your photo and wall hanging space and give us the dimensions for production. It makes sense to keep the shape of the photo to the shape of the canvas or cropping will be required.
We do have a range of standard sizes permanently in stock: ordering one of these sizes significantly speeds the manufacture process.
Standard sizes are: 12x12", 12x16", 16x16", 24x16", 20x32" and 40x40".

Are the printed images durable?

Yes very durable, and colour / lightfast. Our practical tests included machine washing flat prints (full cycle) five times with no colour change to the naked eye. Print is unlikely to fade with normal use. You can't rub colour off. The print will not flake or scratch off the surface like common canvas inkjet printing can and does not crack like some canvas prints do where they get wrapped around the corner of the frame.

What is Gallery wrap and no wrap?

Gallery wrap.
This is where the image folds around the edges. This is by far the most popular way of mounting a photo canvas and we do this by default. If you do not specify "no wrap" this is how we will present your picture.
No wrap.
This is where the image is not wrapped around the frame and is presented face-on with white sides. You must specify if you want this treatment by stating "no wrap" in your notes when you order
